How it works
Everything in the 501 Suite on one page: the short version first in each part, the details after it. Looking for something particular? The questions at the end are the ones players ask most.
Playing a match
Choose the format and the opponent, press Play, and type each visit's score.
Setting up
- The format: 501 or another start score, first to or best of a number of legs, and sets if you like. Best of is always an odd number, so somebody wins.
- The opponent: a bot at the level you choose, a guest playing at your board, or a friend signed in at your board.
- Who starts: you, the opponent, or a bull up. With a Scolia board you throw for the bull and it measures the darts. Without one, each player throws one dart at the bull and taps where it landed: Bullseye, Outer bullseye or Outside (a bot's dart is thrown on screen). The better place throws first; the same place is a tie, and you throw again. Rather not throw? Toss for it instead.
- Sound: Caller, Simple voice or Off. The speaker on the match bar switches between them during a match.
Entering scores
- Type the visit's total and press Enter. The quick keys beside the numbers hold common scores; switch them between the treble 20 and the treble 19 with T20 | T19 under the keypad.
- Score left: know what you have left but not what you scored? Type what is left and press Score left; the score is worked out for you.
- Clear empties the number in one go. On a computer, Delete does the same, and Backspace takes one digit.
- Near a finish the game asks how many darts went at a double, so your checkout figures are right. With double in, it asks which dart hit the opening double when the score leaves a choice.
- AVG on the match bar shows your average for the leg and the match, under your name.
Mistakes
- Tap or click any earlier score in the list to correct it. The rest of the match is recalculated around it.
- Undo takes back the last score. Against a bot, Undo on your turn opens your last score to correct, and the bot's visit stays as it was thrown.
- On a computer, press U to take back your score even while the bot is throwing.
Leave in the middle of a match and the game offers to pick it up where you left it. Play a match
With a Scolia board
Select your Scolia, wait for it to say Ready, and throw: every dart is scored for you.
- Selecting your Scolia: on the Scolia page, or in the Scolia menu where a page shows it. A Scolia set to None means typing scores.
- Not ready (offline, calibrating): the game asks whether to type your scores or wait for your Scolia.
- A dart read wrongly: tap that visit and correct the dart, not the whole score.
- The bull up is thrown at your board, and your Scolia measures who was nearer.
Some things need a Scolia: the monthly challenge, and a verified career, where every match is played with it.
Career
From the Pub League to the Elite Tour, one matchday at a time, against named players with their own styles.
- Each matchday is one match against the player the fixture names. The rest of the league plays its matches around you, and the table moves as you go.
- Finish high enough and you move up a tier; the players get better as you do.
- A verified career is played on a Scolia board, every match.
Tournaments
Knockouts and other formats: win a round, play the next, until the trophy or the exit.
- Choose a tournament and its level, then play it round by round, as fast or as slowly as you like.
- Some tournaments let you start behind or ahead, to make a round harder or easier.
The Week Series
Six days, twelve players, one champion. Every match 501, best of 7 legs.
- Days 1 to 3, Group A: six players, a round every day. The winner goes straight to finals night.
- Days 4 and 5, the second chance: second and third play on in Group B, fourth to sixth in Group C, each with fresh players, for the remaining places.
- Day 6, finals night: two groups of three, then the semi-finals and the final.
- On the calendar a new day opens at midnight. Aim to play each day's matches on the day; if you cannot, they wait for you and nothing is lost. At your own pace every day is open at once.
- Seasons: your own twelve weeks make a season. The weekly winners meet in the Season Finals.
- Choose the level for each week. After a week you won, the next level up is suggested.
The monthly challenge
One format for the whole month, played on a Scolia board, ranked by your best average.
- Play it as often as you like: your best result counts.
- It needs a Scolia, selected and Ready: every dart scored by the Scolia, none adjusted.
- The leaderboard shows Premium members. Anyone can play the format.
Your Stats and the coach
Every match you play adds to your figures, and the coach tells you what they say.
- Your Stats (the tab on the 501 page): your averages, checkouts and 180s, every match, how you do under pressure (deciding legs, match darts), and your match rhythm (how you start matches and legs, and answer the opponent).
- After each match the coach picks out what stood out and suggests a game to practise it.
- The Virtual Coach picks training games for you every day, including from what your 501 matches show.
- Watch a match again from your stats or the 501 Suite page, and share it with a link.
Questions
I typed the wrong score. How do I fix it?
Tap or click the score in the list on screen and type the right one. Everything after it is recalculated. If it was your last score, Undo takes it back too.
I pressed Undo against the bot, but it did not take back the bot's score.
That is on purpose: on your turn, Undo opens your own last score to correct, and the bot's visit stays as it was thrown. Taking it back would let the bot throw again, and a good visit could be thrown away until a poor one came.
Why is "best of" always an odd number?
So that somebody wins. A best of 2 could stand at one leg each. Choose an even number and it moves up to the next odd one.
How is the bull up decided without a Scolia?
You throw one dart at the bull and tap where it landed: Bullseye, Outer bullseye or Outside. Your opponent does the same; a bot's dart is thrown on screen, with its own accuracy. Bullseye beats Outer bullseye, which beats Outside. The same place for both is a tie: you both throw again, the other player first. Rather not throw? Tap Toss for it instead, and it is decided at once.
I missed a day in the Week Series. Is it lost?
No. A day that has opened stays open. When you are back, its matches come first, then the next day's.
Why is the caller silent?
Check the sound on the setup screen or the speaker on the match bar: Caller, Simple voice or Off. Browsers play sound only after a tap on the page, which pressing Play gives them. After the first two weeks, the recorded caller is part of Premium; the simple voice is always there.
Why is my result not on the challenge's leaderboard?
The challenge counts matches played on a Scolia board, in its format, and the leaderboard shows Premium members.
Can I play against a friend?
Yes: a guest at your board, any time, or a friend who signs in at your board, which needs Premium for both of you.
Where do I start?
On the 501 Suite page: it shows what is waiting for you, and a Getting started list takes you through each part once.
