New game: Medi's 21

The talented darts player, János Börzsei (Hungary – Scolia), reached out to me earlier with a request for a new game. He told me that the successful trainer in Hungary, Medárd Ziegenham, had a great routine that he wanted to see on GoDartsPro. We discussed different ways to create and add the game to GoDartsPro, with what options, and we’ve now launched it as: Medi’s 21

Medi’s 21 game rules

The game idea is around the board from 1-20 + Bull, and you pre-select in which order you need to hit the fields to score points. There are 12 different orders to select from, from the easiest where you only need to hit singles, to more difficult ones including trebles and doubles. This way the game can be used by all members, from beginners to professionals. You score 1 point for singles, 2 point for doubles, and 3 points for trebles.
But you always only score points when you hit the field of the current number, in the corresponding order you’ve pre-selected.

Bonus-Bundle Option (BB)

If you manage to hit your pre-selected targets with all three darts you also get a bonus. The size of the bonus is based on the difficulty of the target fields. Use this option if you want to reward yourself when you’ve thrown three perfect darts.

If you for example have pre-selected the field order to be Treble-Single-Double, and hit the Single with your first dart you score no points for that dart. With the 2nd dart you have to hit the Single to score 1 point. With your 3rd dart you need to hit the Double to score 2 points. So for all numbers around the board, you need to aim each dart at the corresponding order you’ve pre-selected, in this case – Treble-Single-Double.

Conclusions

This is a great game in many ways. The fact that you can start out with the easiest option, Single-Single-Single, and then move on to more difficult ones, like Treble-Treble-Double, when you’ve improved makes it very versatile. But one of the most important aspects is that the game doesn’t promote any bad throws, meaning if you’ve selected the option Single-Single-Single, and instead hit a treble you score nothing. If you are a beginner playing 501’s you probably hit many 12’s and 18’s when aiming for treble 20. Sometimes even hit a random Treble 18 to score 54 with one dart. That might feel good and do good for your scoring in that leg, but still, since you were aiming for treble 20 it wasn’t a good throw and doesn’t reflect your accuracy.

That’s why I think games like Medi’s 21 are especially useful because only the accurate throws are rewarded with points. Also I wanted to add the Bonus-Bull option which rewards you when do a perfect throw with your three darts.
