Warming up isn’t just about throwing darts. It’s about preparing your mind to adapt, refocus, and execute with intent. Focus Shift is designed exactly for that. This new training game challenges players to reset their aim with every dart: first targeting 20, then 19, and finally 18. It’s a simple routine on the surface, but beneath it lies one of the most important skills in darts — learning to switch focus quickly and confidently between targets.
I’ve got quite a few requests lately from members who just started playing, asking for different types of games to use. The most asked question has been about different good warming up routines for their current novice level.
So I looked at the games available on GoDartsPro and came up with a few new games. First the Sections game I recently added, and now the Focus Shift game. The games have a few things in common but in the Sections game you use all three darts at the same target, so I also wanted to add a game including shifting focus.
With a clear scoring system that rewards precision (3 points for hitting the intended number, no matter the segment), Focus Shift builds both rhythm and accuracy. For novice players, an added boost of confidence comes from earning 1 point on adjacent numbers, making it easier to stay positive while still developing control.
Whether you’re just starting out or sharpening your fundamentals, this routine turns your warm-up into purposeful practice. A routine where every dart has a role, and every throw builds focus.
If you recently started playing darts or if you’re in a slump with low confidence, you can use this as part of your warming up routine. I wouldn’t suggest you to start playing the game first thing you do with your darts in your hand, but after some exercises to get your throwing arm warm, and maybe have been throwing for 5-10 minutes just to loosen up your arm and getting ready for practice. So maybe something like this as a daily warming up routine for you:
1) – Essential exercises include arm circles, wrist shakes, and shoulder stretches.
2) – Do 5–10 minutes of light throwing, starting with just aiming for bull to loosen muscles.
Focus on smooth, full-extension throws without really caring where you hit on the board.
3) – Do a session of the Sections game
4) – Now you’re ready for a session of Focus Shift
When you’ve done this you can continue to do #3 and #4 a few more times, or jump in to the Game On area and select some of your other favourite games on GoDartsPro!
